If you recently took the Chicago Police Department examination on December 11, 2010, you should of received an email on February 14th from the City either accepting or rejecting your application. Many have complained of passing the written examination but having their application denied because of not attaching the necessary documentation, i.e. valid driver's license and 60 credit hours of college. This was clearly explained during the application process. If you feel you followed the proper procedures and there is an error on the city's end, you must contact the city A.S.A.P.! Please check your emails applicants!!

The following email was sent out to accepted applicants:

This correspondence is to inform you that the review of your application for the entry level Police Officer position with the City of Chicago has been completed, and your application has been accepted.

You have met the minimum qualifications, attached the appropriate documents, and passed the written exam. Your name will be placed on the Police Officer referral list in a random lottery order. The lottery is conducted through an electronic system that has a random formula to generate a lottery list. It is not based on social security number. This referral list will be used until it is exhausted which could take up to four years.
By March 31, 2011, you will receive a letter via U.S. Mail providing you with your lottery number.

As vacancies become available in the Chicago Police Department, we will refer individuals in lottery order to take part in the remaining portions of the selection process including the P.O.W.E.R Test as well as all other pre-employment testing.

Here is what a failed letter looks like:

Dear <name>:


This correspondence is to inform you that your application for the entry level Police Officer position has been reviewed and rejected. Your application was rejected for one of the following reasons:
• You did not meet one or more of the minimum qualifications which included the following:
o Age
? All military and non-military applicants must have reached their 21st birthday by the last day of the application period which is November 26, 2010. Non-military applicants will not be eligible to be hired until their 25th birthday. Proof of age must be provided at time of application.
? Pursuant to the Municipal Code of Chicago, no person may be appointed as a probationary Police Officer after their 40th birthday.

? Education / Military Experience
? 60 semester (or 90 quarter) hours of credit from a college or university completed prior to the last day of the application period which is Friday, November 6,2010.
OR

? Three years (36 months) of active duty in the U. S. Armed Forces completed prior to the last day of the application period which is Friday, November 26, 2010.
OR
? 30 semester (or 45 quarter) hours of credit completed from a college or university prior to the last day of the application period which is Friday, November 26, 2010 AND one year (12 months) of active duty in the U. S. Armed Forces.
? Academic credit hours must be granted by an accredited educational institution.

? You did not attach one or more of the required pieces of documentation which included the following:
? A current, valid driver's license or traffic violation ticket

? Age:
? A current, valid driver's license or traffic violation ticket
? A passport
? A birth certificate

? Educational Experience:
? Educational Transcripts - certified or non-certified copies.
? International Transcripts - including a Foreign Credential Evaluation.

? Military Experience
? Active Military Duty
? Letter from your Commanding Officer on official stationary verifying applicant's active duty and length of service in the Armed Forces of the United States. The letter should also include a copy of the applicant's Military ID.
? Veterans
? DD214 for Veteran status - The copy must include discharge status; this is traditionally known as the Member Copy 4.
? If a copy of an applicant's DD214 cannot be obtained, then a letter from the United States Veterans Administration on official stationary stating dates of service and character of service can be accepted.
NOTE: All documentation was required to be attached by you or sent to us by 11:59PM (CST) on Friday, November 26, 2010. No exceptions can be made after the deadline.

Based on this information, your application has been disqualified, and it will no longer be considered for the entry level Police Officer position with the City of Chicago.
